Venezuelan Red Book of Threatened Flora
This year 2020 I had the great satisfaction of contributing to the publication of the Red Book of the Threatened Flora in Venezuela. My responsibility in this project consisted of the design and layout of the entire piece, taking the MS Word documents and turning them into a professionally designed book, including the creation of graphics, tables, typesetting, retouching of images and final artwork. I also contributed with some photographs.
This publication takes into consideration the criteria for assessing the risk of extinction of species established by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the world’s most comprehensive information source on the global conservation status of animal, fungi and plant species.
This second Venezuelan edition, together with similar publications worldwide, represents far more than a list of species and their status, it is a powerful tool to inform and promote action for biodiversity conservation and policy change, critical to protecting the natural resources we need to survive.
An understanding of the natural world and what's in it is a source of not only a great curiosity but great fulfillment.

Wildlife Illustrations for The Red Book of Venezuelan Fauna
More than 35,500 species are threatened with extinction worldwide and it’s a fast growing number. Populations of wild animals have more than halved since 1970, while the human population has doubled. Only five times before in our planet’s history have so many species and so much biodiversity been lost so quickly. The fifth was when the dinosaurs were wiped out. That is why scientists and conservationists call what is happening now the ‘sixth mass extinction’. Hence, the red list of threatened species is growing. For this reason I am voluntarily contributing to illustrate some of the species from the Red Book of Venezuelan Fauna published by the NGO Provita and the IUCN.
